Sophie, Countess of Wessex triggered a royal security scare this week, after her handbag, containing her mobile phone, went missing.
Prince Edward’s wife was on a private engagement without her bodyguard when she noticed it had mysteriously disappeared. She immediately alerted Buckingham Palace staff and her husband.
Scotland Yard was later brought into the investigation because of the acute concern that the handbag belonged to the Queen’s daughter-in-law.
Inside her handbag, the glamorous royal is understood to keep intimate photos of her three children, and numerous VIP telephone numbers on her mobile.
Sophie was later reunited with her bag.
"It is thought the thief panicked when they realised who the bag belonged to and it was dumped," a source tells the Daily Mail.
