X Factor winner Alexandra Buke has taken over Beverley Knight's role as superstar Rachel Marron in the musical version of romantic thriller film The Bodyguard, and she couldn't be happier.
Following her opening evening on Monday, Alexandra tweeted on Tuesday: “A big thank you to all of those who came out and supported me on opening night last night. I am eternally grateful. I'm so touched”.
Receiving encouraging messages from her 710,000 followers and amazing feedback about her "fantastic" performance, she later tweeted: “I am so happy…Just a happy girl”.
Alexandra is a huge fan of late singer Whitney Houston - who starred in the original movie - and prior to her debut she spoke out on the privilege of playing a role made famous by the star.
“I couldn't be more excited about joining the cast of The Bodyguard and to play the iconic role of Rachel Marron will be a dream come true,” she said. Later adding: "Whitney is a legend. She is my biggest love".
The musical, which is based on the 1992 film hit, has run for the last nine months and will be running until August at the Adelphi Theatre in London.
Beverley also posted several emotional tweets leading up to her departure, and mid-way through her last show on 31 May, referring to the iconic Whitney Houston song I Have Nothing, she said:
“Act 1 is done..I Have Nothing was so deep..Nearly lost it but I’m all good. Incredible audience and atmosphere tonight. @thebodyguardUK xx”.
The producers are currently planning on taking the production to Australia and Germany, and ideally Broadway in New York.
