Nicholas Lyndhurst back on Only Fools... as Rodney's dad

Monday October 5, 2009

British actor Nicholas Lyndhurst is to star in the Only Fools and Horses prequel, playing the father of the character he made famous in the original show.

The 47-year-old will play "art connoisseur" Freddie "The Frog" Robdal - Rodney Trotter's biological father - in the comedy drama titled Sex, Drugs & Rock 'n' Chips.

Set in 1960, the 90-minute-episode will hit BBC screens next year.

Also joining the cast is Bad Girls' Kellie Bright as Del Boy's glamorous mother, and ex-EastEnder Phil Daniels as his grandfather, Ted Trotter.

"Nick Lyndhurst is a comedy genius and I can't think of anyone better suited to bring the shady but charming Freddie Robdal to life," said writer John Sullivan.

Only Fools and Horses ran for seven series from 1981 to 1991, and was last on screen for a Christmas special in 2003.
