After months of excitement and anticipation, the Queen has finally kicked off her Diamond Jubilee tour in Leicester.
The monarch travelled by train from London with husband Prince Philip and the Duchess of Cambridge, by her side.
Hordes of excited well wishers lined the streets waving flags and hoping for a glimpse of the royal party as they arrived in the station.
The ladies were guests at a fashion parade in De Montfort University, where Kate commissioned a student's shoe design.
The Duke of Edinburgh was to be shown the Square Mile project – the university's initiative to stimulate and improve the local community.
Leicester is just the opening chapter of a countrywide tour that will have the Queen on the move until July 25.
