"Marvellous, marvellous." With those words, a delighted Queen Sofia congratulated the Spanish football team after their historic World Cup semi final victory against Germany.
Wearing the colours of the Spanish flag – a red dress and a red and yellow scarf – the queen visited the players in the dressing room after the match.
There, she passed on the congratulations "of the king, princes and princesses, our grandchildren and all the people of Spain."
She shook hands with all the players, including Carles Puyol, who scored the winning goal.
The 71-year-old royal will stay in South Africa until Sunday's final – the first time in Spain's history that the country has reached the last stage in the World Cup.
She spent five years in South Africa in her childhood, when the Greek royal family were exiled from their country during WWII.
