Fatherly love is reason for Phil Collins' retirement

Wednesday March 9, 2011

With seven Grammys, an Oscar and countless hits under his belt, Phil Collins is laying down his microphone.

The former Genesis drummer and frontman explained his reasons for "calling it a day" in a post entitled 'Breaking News' on his personal website.

He put to rest months of media speculation over his reasons for retirement.

"Many of the articles printed over the last few months have ended up painting a picture of me that is more than a little distorted."

The 60-year-old feels that articles portrayed him as a "tormented weirdo", but that his comments had been taken out of context.

Clearing the air, he stated that it's not the bad reviews, bad press or him feeling "unloved" that's causing him to finally quit.

"I am stopping so I can be a full-time father to my two young sons on a daily basis."
