Alexander McQueen's record-breaking exhibit closes

Wednesday August 10, 2011

After four successful months, New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art has closed the 'Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty' exposition.

About 661,509 visitors stopped by the installation following its opening on May 4, making it one of the museum’s top 10 most visited exhibitions ever.

'Savage Beauty' showcases the work of the late fashion legend from his time as a student on Saville Row to his final collection, Plato's Atlantis.

The retrospective's opening boasted a star-studded attendance.

Beyoncé, Fergie, Taylor Swift, Gisele Bündchen, and Jennifer Lopez were just a few of those who turned out to show their support for the self-proclaimed 'Edgar Allen Poe' of design.

Sarah Jessica Parker said of the late couturier: “I think one shouldn’t pick one memory or recall one thing.

“He could create clothing that nobody else wanted to, nobody else saw in their imagination.

"And he did it with great seriousness and flair and whimsy and savagery. I think this exhibit is a wonderful example of that.”
