British athlete Jessica Ennis has added yet another accolade to her collection, picking up the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year award.
The 27 year old has enjoyed a highly successful year, scooping gold at the Olympics in the heptathlon competition, being named Sportswoman of the Year by the Sports Journalists' Association, and even attaining a CBE from the Queen in February 2013.
Speaking in Rio de Janeiro where the award ceremony took place, she commented: “There have been a few ups and downs, but you have those.
“Last year was just an incredible high, and things have happened since, but we are just trying to keep our heads down, focus and look towards the Worlds.”
It was a great night all round for British sports stars, with tennis champion Andy Murray and Sebastian Coe, the chairman of the organizing committee for London 2012, both winning awards.
And Jessica’s lucky streak is set to continue, as she marries her fiancée Andy Hill later in 2013.
