Carry On star Leslie Phillips has spoken about his wife’s depression following her death in a suspected suicide.
Actress Angela Scoular was 65 and had been suffering from bowel cancer.
Police are investigating after officers were called to the couple’s home in Maida Vale, London on Monday.
She is thought to have drank household chemicals.
Angela appeared in two Bond films - as Buttercup in Casino Royale in 1966 and as Ruby Bartlett in On Her Majesty's Secret Service in 1969.
But she had spent the last three years battling her illness, the 86-year-old actor said.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, he described Monday as “the worst day of my life”.
“She had gone under, into this deep sadness. She had had a ghastly time.
“She did her best but it got her down. Cancer takes you to the lowest places. It’s a very tough thing to live with.”
