Emma Watson aspires to 'live like Patti Smith'

Monday June 13, 2011

Emma Watson is preparing for the next chapter of her life and wants to follow the example of rock legend Patti Smith.

The Harry Potter actress admits that she needs to find her way out of the bubble, which she describes in part as the safe world of life on the set of the successful film franchise.

Emma reveals in the July issue of Vogue magazine that she has been inspired by reading Patti Smith's 2010 memoir, Just Kids, and cites the singer-songwriter, artist and poet as a role model.

Emma revealed: "I want to live like Patti. I want to write like Patti.

"The book was so honest and brave. I loved the way she sees the world. I really felt that life was more beautiful after I read it, and I felt more hopeful."

The 21-year-old actress, who plays bookish Hermione in the Harry Potter series, said she is learning a lot about herself and about acting.

She revealed: "Hermione is so close to who I am as a person that I've never really had to research a role. I'm literally rediscovering what it means to be an actress."

Emma enrolled at Brown University in 2009.

She said: "I have felt for the last ten years I have had this battle; I've been fighting so hard to have an education. It's been this uphill struggle. I was Warner Bros' pain in the butt. I was their scheduling conflict. I was the one who made life difficult."
