She quit professional tennis two years ago to get married and start a family, and at this year's US Open, Kim Clijsters made the mother of all comebacks.
The unseeded Belgian smashed her way to victory in the final of the competition, becoming the first mum to win a Grand Slam event since 1980.
There to share the on-court celebrations in New York was Kim's 18-month toddler Jada, her daughter with basketball player Brian Lynch.
"We tried to plan her naptime a little bit later so she could be here today," the emotional 26-year-old told the cheering crowd.
"It's the greatest feeling in the world, being a mother."
"Winning wasn't in the plan, it all seems so surreal," said Kim, who also picked up a $1.6 million pay cheque for securing the title.
