A judge ruled on Friday that Frances Bean Cobain, daughter of Courtney Love and late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, is no longer under her mother's guardianship.
The 17-year-old's paternal grandmother, Wendy O'Connor, and aunt Kimberly Cobain, have been appointed as temporary legal guardians until a hearing set for February 10.
Courtney's lawyer revealed to People that the decision for the custody change came from Frances Bean and is not the result of a speculated drug relapse on the part of the singer.
This is not, however, the first time Courtney has lost custody of her daughter.
The two were separated in 2003 after Courtney was arrested in Los Angeles for an attempted break-in, and Frances Bean was placed with Wendy then, also.
But, Courtney regained legal control in 2005 after she proved that she was no longer using drugs.
