David Beckham has thanked "everyone for their support" and declared he is "feeling positive" despite an Achilles tendon injury that has ruled him out of the World Cup.
"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their messages of support, they mean a lot to me," read a statement issued by the AC Milan star, who underwent surgery in Finland on Monday.
"The operation was a success and I'd like to thank Dr Orava and all the medical staff who looked after me during my time in Finland.
"I'm feeling positive and now concentrating on getting back to full fitness over the coming months."
Orthopedic surgeon Sakari Orava has revealed the star was in "some pain" after the procedure, but is recovering well.
He said the father-of-three will "stand up and start to walk with crutches" soon and will probably leave the clinic on Wednesday.
David, whose wife Victoria jetted out to be by his side in the Nordic country, has been advised against flying long haul back to Los Angeles straight away and is expected to return home via Britain.
