As the first anniversary of Barack Obama's presidency approaches, first lady Michelle has been looking back on a hectic year.
The glamorous mum-of-two compares herself to a swan: "calm and serene above water - but we're paddling like mad, going crazy underneath, trying to look smooth."
Michelle, who topped the Forbes list of most powerful women, and is the Times' most influential lady, told reporters her popularity "wasn't something that I was prepared for".
The 46-year-old Harvard-educated lawyer reveals she has no regrets but vows to do more in the future.
"I'm a 110-percenter," she said. "And, yes, we can do more."
Asked what she was most proud of over the last year, down-to-earth Michelle answered: "that my kids are sane".
