Former presidential hopeful Wyclef Jean shot in Haiti

Monday March 21, 2011

Wyclef Jean has been shot while campaigning for a friend in the upcoming presidential elections in Haiti.

The Fugees rapper was reportedly hit in the hand when he got out of his car to make a phonecall in Port-au-Prince.

According to the Sun Wyclef is quoted as saying: "I heard, 'blow, blow, blow' and I looked down at my right hand."

The star's management company has confirmed that the wound was superficial and that he's "doing well".

A spokesman wrote on Twitter: "We have spoken to Wyclef, he is OK. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers."

The Haitian-born 41-year-old had wanted to stand for president himself.

His candidacy was blocked by an electoral committee because he hadn't lived in Haiti for five consecutive years before the election.
