Parky 'gutted' as ancestry show deems family tree too boring

Tuesday July 21, 2009

Famed interviewer Michael Parkinson has expressed his disappointment in being unable to appear in Who Do You Think You Are after producers judged his ancestors too "boring".

The 74-year-old had been looking forward to being on the genealogy documentary series – one of his favourite shows – but was unable to take part when the show's investigators failed to unearth anything of interest in his family roots after six weeks.

"When Who Do You Think You Are called and asked if I was interested, I said I would be delighted, but warned my own research unearthed nothing of note," said the chat show host.

"They said, 'Oh they all say that, but we always find something."

"Six weeks later, they phoned to apologise. My story was so boring they had to cancel the entire project. I was gutted. Of all the celebrity-based telly programmes, this was the one I wanted to be on."
