Family man Jamie splashes out £70,000 on transatlantic travel

Monday June 22, 2009

It seems money is no object for Jamie Oliver when it comes to his family. The TV chef spent almost £70,000 flying back and forth between America and London while filming his latest series in the States.

Insisting he would not spend more than six days away from his wife Jules - at the time pregnant with the couple's third little girl – and his two daughters Poppy Honey and Daisy Boo, the 34-year-old chose not to make his new six-part series in one go.

Instead he opted to take 12 first class flights - each costing £5,000 - across the Atlantic to spend time with his girls. His decision meant that filming went on for eight months before coming to a close earlier in June.

For his latest venture, the Essex foodie – said to be worth £40 million - visits some of America's most unhealthy cities in a bid to improve the locals' eating habits. The programme will be shown on Channel 4 next year.
