Teri raises a 'Toast' to her life and loves

One might think a few slices of burnt toast would be the least of a Desperate Housewife's worries, but Wysteria Lane favourite Teri Hatcher has made it clear she knows just which side her bread is buttered after launching her new book on Tuesday.

Having already made her mark as an actress on both the big and small screens, the popular performer has now turned author with the unusually titled tome Burnt Toast: And Other Philosophies Of Life. The book, which is a personal manifesto on the lessons she has learned over the course of her 41 years, offers a candid look at ups and downs of a life rich in experience.

In it the mother-of-one confesses that during her second marriage, to actor Jon Tenney, she became a real life desperate housewife as their relationship was so devoid of passion. And after their divorce the actress set off on a series of doomed romances, one of which saw her dating a "handsome millionaire who was already in a long-term relationship with cocaine", while another involved a "creepy lawyer" who offered her "$50,000 to go to a convention with him, like an escort".

Burnt Toast also tackles the media reports she was suffering from an eating disorder and the emotional scars she bears from being molested as a child. The heartfelt exposé takes its title from a lesson the Californian star learned from her mother. Like many struggling parents, Esther Hatcher rarely put herself first and when she burnt a piece of toast she would eat it herself so her daughter could enjoy the better slices. These days the former Bond girl reckons her satisfaction is rather more important than an over-crisped slice of bread, however.
