Michael Douglas ribbed by former president Bill

Silver screen veteran Michael Douglas found himself on the receiving end of some light-hearted cracks from former US President Bill Clinton when the two men attended a charity event in London. The silver-haired politician, who was giving a keynote address to a fundraising dinner in Old Billingsgate Market, embraced the renowned actor before teasing him about marrying a glamorous actress 25 years his junior.

"Most of you will have no way of knowing this, but I admire Michael Douglas very, very much and I was delighted when I heard he was going to be here tonight," said Bill. "I was delighted to see him earlier today and delighted that he and Catherine Zeta-Jones married and I realised he would be well cared for in our old age."

As the audience collapsed into laughter, the former Democrat leader recalled how, during his term in office, he called on the Basic Instinct star to swap places with him. "I tried to persuade him to stay there for an hour so that I could have a break, but he had no trouble saying no to the President," he quipped.

Among the other famous faces attending the Fortune Forum gala were Darcy Bussell, Yusuf Islam - better known as Cat Stevens - and Greek royals Prince Pavlos and Princess Marie-Chantel.
