Outspoken fashion maestro Karl Lagerfeld is never one to hold back his opinions.
From singer Adele, who he said was "too fat", to the British Royal Family which he deemed "unnecessary", a host of famous faces have been on the receiving end of the German designer's sharp tongue.
Now, he has delivered his verdict on the Middleton ladies – and despite his often negative comments, Carole emerges with honours.
During an interview with Grazia, Chanel's creative director compared the 30-year-old Duchess of Cambridge and her sister Pippa, 28, with their 57-year-old mum.
In his typically blunt style, he said: "I think Carole is very sexy. I think the mother is sexier than the daughters,"
Karl went on to specify exactly what it was about the Party Pieces businesswoman that so impressed him.
"There is something full of life about her. For a woman who must be 50 or so, I think she's great. Full of energy."
The designer rounded out his review with some kind words for Carole's offspring.
"I love Kate Middleton!" he said. "She can try anything. For makeup, she has no limits!"
Karl also back tracked on acerbic comments he made about Pippa earlier in the year, when he questioned her photogenic qualities.
"I only meant that I don't think her make-up is right; she has a roundish face and round eyes and she should pick another make-up for the eyes. Her sister's more beautiful," he said.
