Speaking of the project, BBC Worldwide managing director Helen Jackson said: "This is an unforgettable documentary set in the heart of the dense Amazon rainforest following David Beckham.
She went on to say that those watching will get a unique view of the jungle via the star, adding: "Through his eyes, audiences will experience life in the jungle, something so distant from David's life on and off the pitch and in the glare of the world's media."
BBC One controller Charlotte Moore shared that David and company spent two weeks travelling through the rainforest, learning to camp, cook and fish as they experienced what the network called “the real Brazil” as the country prepares to host the World Cup.
David Beckham in the H&M campaign
“In this special documentary for BBC One, David Beckham embarks on a top secret expedition to the Amazon that will see him encounter the other side of Brazil”, said Charlotte before adding that this is “a TV first for the global icon.”
David hung up his football boots for good at the end of the 2012-2013 season but he has remained closely associated with the sport.
In early 2014 David fulfilled a dream of creating a Major League Soccer team in Miami and has become an advocate for MLS related charities such as MLS W.O.R.K.S.
Fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger recently called David the "underwear model of the century", and hundreds of millions of viewers saw him strip down to his briefs during an H&M advert during the 2014 Super Bowl.
