Sultry star Angelia Jolie is set to become a UN goodwill ambassador next week, joining the likes of Michael Douglas and former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell on the organisation’s star-studded roster.
“She is the kind of person who can get our message across to young people,” says a spokesman for the United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees (UNHCR), Kris Janowski. “She can natually bring our message to youth, people who are not usually interested in the… United Nations.” Angelina will be officially installed on Monday at a ceremony at the peacekeeping outfit’s Geneva headquarters.
The 26-year-old actress was spotted at London’s Heathrow airport on Sunday en route to Pakistan where she’ll visit the disease-ridden refugee camps. “I’m going there to learn a bit more about the situation,” she says. “I’m just learning a lot about refugee situations and the world before I’m made a goodwill ambassador.”
The Original Sin star joined the UNHCR team on a mission to Cambodia last month where she met with returned refugees and displaced people in the country.
The Oscar winner donated upwards of $1 million from her Tomb Raider winnings to Sierra Leone earlier this year after witnessing the war-ravaged land first hand.
