'Devil Wears Prada' stars keep mum on labels

For the stars of The Devil Wears Prada, a film about an editor's reign of terror over a glossy New York fashion magazine, the premiere must have presented a major challenge in terms of choosing the perfect outfit.

When it came to labels no one was saying who was wearing what and, along with her co-stars, Meryl Streep - the movie's satanic eminence - remained unfazed by the pressure. Usually seen in Valentino, the Oscar winner was elegant in a white satin two-piece.

Her on-screen assistant, Princess Diaries' star Anne Hathaway, who is normally a Marc Jacobs devotee, had chosen a slinky floor-length scarlet affair. With its low-cut neckline the dress was guaranteed to send the already sultry temperatures in the city soaring even higher.

Of course, the most style-savvy lady in the Big Apple also had an invite for the evening. Sex And The City's Sarah Jessica Parker, whose onscreen character had a passion for expensive footwear, teased photographers by pointing at her turquoise peep-toes as if to say: "Bet you can't guess who these are by".

Her stylist friend Patricia Field, who was responsible for the protagonists' on-screen wardrobe, deliberately chose to fudge the labels issue. She explained that in picking out their costumes she had turned to designers such as Bill Blass and Donna Karan, because: "I wanted people not to know exactly what it was."

Meanwhile, over in Britain old pals Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves were also stepping out to another screening. The pair, who've known each other since starring in Speed, are teamed up again in the romantic thriller The Lake House.
