KISSES FOR CAMILLA FROM PRINCE CHARLES AS THE COUPLE EXPRESS THEIR AFFECTION IN PUBLIC FOR THE FIRST TIME

The first public expression of affection between the Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles was recorded for posterity amid an explosion of flashbulbs this week. Upon arriving at a charity function organised by Camilla, Charles leaned towards her and gently kissed her on each cheek, saying: “Hello you”.

The uncharacteristic display from the normally reserved couple took place at an evening hosted by Camilla to mark the 15th anniversary of the National Osteoporosis Society in a marquee set up on the forecourt of Somerset House in central London.

Dressed in a lilac cocktail dress by Anthony Price, Camilla circulated among guests including Barbara Windsor, Patsy Kensit, Diana Rigg and Stephen Fry, as she waited for the Prince to arrive. Also present were some of the couple’s closest friends and nearest relatives.

Following criticism over their joint attendance at the Press Complaints Commission Ball earlier this year, and perhaps aware that thoughts of Princess Diana, who would have celebrated her 40th birthday on Sunday, would not be far from everyone’s mind, this appearance was relatively low key. It was the third time Camilla had been at the Prince’s side in public in a matter of days.

Charles was accompanied to the event by Princess Rania of Jordan, who is the president of the International Osteoporosis Foundation. He and Camilla later dined with the King and Queen of Jordan at St James’s Palace.
