Nigella Lawson only asked for the 'contents of her kitchen' after divorce from Charles Saatchi
09 MARCH 2014Nigella Lawson could have fought for anything after her bitter split from Charles Saatchi, but all she wanted was the contents of her kitchen.
The television chef, 54, who divorced her art dealer husband last year, asked for no other material possessions apart from her homely valuables.
"She adores the indulgences in life – good food, good face cream, good bed linen," Nigella's friend Nathaniel Goldberg told Vogue. "But she's not spoilt.
"The very fact she walked away from her marriage without asking for anything other than the contents of her kitchen is testament to that."
Nigella threw a party and invited her fishmongers, who helped clear out her kitchen
Nigella also asked her fishmonger friends to remove her cooking appliances from the couple's London home. And to celebrate the end of a difficult chapter of her life, the domestic goddess threw a party for those who had helped her through the trying time — including the fishmongers, her lawyers, her agent and makeup artist.
The Grillo sisters called the trial 'mortifying' for everyone involved
"I've been able to take pleasure from things again," Nigella is said to have told Nathaniel. "I had an impromptu dinner party recently and felt an incredible sense of comfort come over me.
"I realised there was nobody coming who I would be uncomfortable in front of wearing just socks and leggings and no make-up."
Nigella also started off the New Year by appearing on UK television screens with her new Channel 4 show The Taste, which sees kitchen hopefuls battle it out to become the first winner of the cookery programme.
"I have to be honest, to have not only your private life but distortions of your private life put on display is mortifying," she told ABC's Good Morning America. "But there are people going through an awful lot worse and to dwell on it would be self-pity, and I don't want to do that."
She added that her "main desire" was to protect her children, Bruno and Cosima, before joking that since the trial she had "eaten a lot of chocolate".
During the trial, Nigella admitted to having taken cocaine and cannabis, but denied that she was a drug addict.
